Sloppy Joes

Preparation time: 10 minutes  | Cooking time: 30 minutes  | Serves: 6 - 8


Ingredients

2 tbsp Deep South spices

500g beef mince

2 cloves of garlic (crushed)

1 stick of celery (finely chopped)

1 small onion (finely chopped)

400g chopped tomatoes

1 tsp apple cider vinegar

2 tbsp Curious Farmer Smoked Tomato Ketchup (or regular ketchup)


Heat a splash of oil in a large, heavy based saucepan over a medium heat. Gently cook the onions and celery for 8-10 minutes until softened. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds, followed by the Deep South spices and cook for a further 30 seconds.

Increase the heat and add the mince, cooking quickly until browned, breaking down any chunks of meat with a wooden spoon.

Stir in the chopped tomatoes, tomato ketchup, apple cider vinegar, 100ml of water and season to taste. Bring to the boil then reduce to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes.

SERVING SUGGESTION: Serve on toasted brioche bun topped with sliced gherkins and fried onions.
